Join us for the new Autumn School on Hate Speech Live Online Course – October 3 /7, 2022
Words can be weapons!
They have the great power to support and inspire, but also to destroy human dignity. Moreover, hate speech can lead to acts of real harm and violence; it is casting a shadow over our common humanity. Hate speech is a growing phenomenon across the world and it is becoming increasingly more dangerous. We have been witnessing its terrible effects: violence, exclusion, discrimination, inequality instead of inclusion, tolerance, respect and fairness.
Aware of the fundamental role of education in preventing such phenomena, the Italian Society for International Organization (SIOI UNA Italy) and UNICRI (United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute) are launching the Autumn School on Hate Speech, which will be delivered online, from 3 to 7 October 2022.
The course is intended for university and post-graduate students, Ph.D. candidates, media and other professionals, including United Nations (UN) personnel, as well as anyone interested in gaining an understanding of hate speech, how it manifests itself and what tools are available to combat it.
Special focus will be given to various dimensions of hate speech and fake news, including the contemporary challenges linked to the Covid-19 pandemic and the role of social media in war and political propaganda campaigns.
The course consists of live webinars from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm Rome-time (8:30 am – 11:30 am New York time), from Monday, 3 October to Friday, 7 October 2022.
